Technical Leader By Day, Inspirations in Glass By Night

What do computers and kilns, data and dichroic, code and C.O.E's all have in common?

To Marcie Tauber, they all co-exist in her mind and in her life.

Tauber says, "The two hemispheres of my brain sometimes compete, sometime collaborate, and sometimes ignore each other completely!"

Located in Wilmington, Delaware, she works during the day as a Business Systems Analyst for JPMorgan Chase, working on very large computer systems in the Card Data Warehouse.

During the evening and weekends, Tauber is a glass artist, focusing on fused glass.

After majoring in math to working for 30 years in Information Technology, the evolution to glass artist began as a practical, economic based idea.

Tauber wanted a stained glass cabinet door, and had run out of money after a kitchen re-modeling project.

From stained glass, she moved to fused glass, and the result was an impractical and emotional love of glass, and the forms it can take. She has now been making stained glass pieces for seven years and working in fused glass for three years.

She has contracted to create custom pieces for homes throughout the area. She also designs and sells work inspired by her surroundings. Her pieces have been featured in several art shows during the past year.

Tauber says, "In the four years I have been fusing, I have gone from broken glass to predictable surfaces, from small pieces to large ones, from little confidence to receiving First Prize for Fine Crafts at Delaware's largest Art Festival. It has been the start of a wonderful journey, which will continue for a long, long time."
