One of the most unique museums in America celebrates glass creation and crafting. The Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington focuses on contemporary glass making while catering to the entire family's creative side. Located in the renovated "Museum MIle" that is part of Tacoma's revived waterfront, The Museum of Glass features a unique theatre to watch glass makers at work. While fire belches from six stations and glass is kneaded, pulled, dripped and joined into diverse creations, the audience sits in bleacher seats as overhead screens bring the action even closer. Guides explain the process and works-in-progress are brought up close to the audience. Other parts of the museum display works by contemporary glass artists and special exhibits are also presented. What really excites children is the playroom where they can create their visions. Each year, two of these creations are turned into glass scupltures that are sold. Glass artists from around the world come to the study for classes and special programs as it refocuses its efforts onto contemporary art.
